The Star Trek Tales of Continuity Errors... Empty The Star Trek Tales of Continuity Errors...

Who loves a good continuity paradox? Me, that's who. And when you have a show running on the air as long as Star Trek, you are bound to get some errors that should really raise even the staunchest of Vulcan eyebrows, plus a few more. While this series of three videos pokes fun at all the Star Trek movies and television shows over the years, I observed that a lot of these issues came about with Enterprise, the last of the franchise television shows. I can't tell whether the writers of this show were reinventing the history built by the other Trek series, or if they just didn't bother to do their research. When you add plot points like encountering Ferrangi, discovering cloaking devices, inventing phasers, rebooting engines in two minutes, or changing the history of the first Klingon/Federation war, then the franchise is probably due for a hiatus. And, oddly enough, that's just what happened when Enterprise finished its run.

But here they are. A near half hour of funny show conundrums that even slingshotting around the sun can't save...

And by the way Star Trek: Voyager, it was a really bad idea to say how many photon torpedoes you had on board way back in season one. You could have just swept it under the rug with all the other nutty television plot holes, but you just couldn't do it, could you? Instead of keeping it mysterious and thereby somewhat plausible, you had to mention a specific number followed by the statement you could never make any more.

There will almost always be such errors in any movie or television productions. Usually only books are likely to lack such mistakes.

So I guess I should say, while it's fun to pick them out (reverse the polarity, anyone?), they don't bother me.

They don't bother me either. I like to point out a show's goofs and foibles. To me, they're just symptoms these kinds of large media narratives produce, often as the result of changing hands over the years.

And don't get me started on Doctor Who. That show stopped even caring about its own continuity long long ago. And still they try to make a cohesive single storyline. Not going to happen fellas.
