Black holes.

Post by grumpit on Mon Oct 17, 2016 12:15 pm

These two videos talk a little about what it would look like as we approach a black hole. Thought it might be useful since... well yea know that what we are about to do.

Yeah, reality. Everyone knows what the interior of a black hole looks like. 1970s Hollywood science solved this mystery for us many years ago. Turns out it's not quite so dark as one would imagine.

Yes, Interstellar also had a fantastic event take place inside of a black hole. The point is, not even physicists know what's inside. Even Alex's videos that describes them really only described what happens as one approaches the event horizon. Scientists say that after the large mass that will become the black hole begins its collapse, it continues to collapse until it reaches zero volume and infinite mass, because "there is no known force that can reverse this collapse"*. In other words, scientists really have no idea what's beyond the event horizon, just some mathematical models and wacky ideas, with very little evidence.

*Not an actual direct quote, just what I remember from my astronomy textbook without bothering to go and get it.

I was just looking to discribe what the approach would look like. Hopefully none of our characters will not need to know what the inside looks like.
