Guess ya just had to be there.

No, it's fairly self-explanatory. An assassin with a sword crippled my legs. Now, I have the Lame disadvantage (missing legs) until I go to the hospital and have surgery done. That will take at least one month.

Since we're on the subject of last game's fight, there's something I think I should bring to everyone's attention.

In zero gravity, your skills and DX rolls are affected as well; see Free Fall (p. 197). This does not apply when firing beam weapons (unless they have Recoil 2 or more) or operating vehicles or tools specifically designed for zero gravity (e.g., a spacecraft). In addition, whenever you make a DX or DX-based skill roll in free fall, use the lower of Free Fall and your DX or skill. For instance, if you had Free Fall-14 and Karate-16, you would roll at 14 or less to land a punch.

Let's bear this rule in mind when we have other fights in environs of no gravity.

You know, Warren is 100% sure that he knows how to fix those legs of yours. He can rebuild your legs. We have TL10-11 technology and Warren has the capability to continue to make you better, I mean, more bionic. He'll make you better than you were before. Better, stronger, faster.

I'm all for that. But the only question is: does he have the materials, money, and the correct surgical equipment to make said bionic man a reality?

I guess it depends... Are we still stuck on that abandoned ship?

We can steal the money. Or we can skip that step and steal the materials and correct surgical equipment instead.

We can steal the money. Or we can skip that step and steal the materials and correct surgical equipment instead.

Here are the rules regarding cybernetic modifications...

Installing cybernetic modifications involves opening up the patient and, except for simple procedures, performing neurosurgery to connect the device to the user’s nervous system. Surgery skill is used to install cybernetics, and Surgery (Cybernetics) may be a common specialization at TL9. Most hospitals are reliable enough that no skill rolls are required for surgery the characters pay for (although cyber-surgery accidents or malpractice can be part of an adventure plot). If they do their own work, or a black-market surgeon is hired, the GM should require a Surgery skill roll (see p. B223). The table below shows the procedures’ difficulty modifiers (use the parenthetical value for brain or eye surgery), the time per attempt, and the injury caused by a failed roll (this is applied to the body part operated on). Success installs the modification, but it won’t work until after the specified recovery period. The fee is the surgical fee charged at a clinic or hospital – ignore it for characters who do their own work.

Surgical Procedures Table Procedure
Simple +4 (+2) 15 min. 1 HP 1 hour $100
Minor +2 (+0) 1 hour 1d/2 HP 1 day $1,000
Major 0 (-2) 2 hours 1d HP 1 week $10,000
Radical -3(-5) 4 hours 3d HP 4 weeks $100,000

So, as you can see, it would be possible. Just bear in mind that I'd be down for two weeks since cyber legs count as two major procedures. Also there are the surgery modifiers we might be facing...

Equipment modifiers (p.345); physiology modifiers (p.181); -3 if the area or equipment cannot be properly cleaned and sterilized; -3 for head or chest surgery; -5 for undiagnosed problems. If you lack Physician skill, you are at -5 to do anything but “field-expedient” surgery

The modifiers for equipment are as follows:

No equipment: -10 for technological skills, -5 for other skills. Note that many skills cannot be used at all without equipment! Improvised equipment: -5 for technological skills, -2 for other skills. Basic equipment: No modifier. This is the case most of the time. Good-quality equipment: +1. Costs about 5¥ basic price. Fine-quality equipment: +2. Costs about 20¥ basic price. Best equipment possible at your TL: +TL/2, round down (minimum +2). Not usually for sale!
