Callen's story. Empty Callen's story.

Post by grumpit Sat Jul 29, 2017 2:02 pm

Callen struggled to break free from the all consuming and infinite void. Vile, pulsating tentacles lashed out of a mass so dark and black it seemed to swallow up not just the light but his very soul as well.  Callen struggled in vain as it slowly yet inexorably pulled him towards it.

As the tentacles tightened their grip he could feel his very essence corrupting. His arms elongated, his fingers curled into wicked talons oozing a black ichor like poison.  His once beautiful and angelic face warping into a rough mass of craggy pits and seeping bloody cracks. His eyes gone, leaving only two hateful and hungry gaping voids in their place all too eager to swallow the souls any foolish enough to gaze into them.  His back tore open as long wings of flesh stretched too thinly over sharp and spiky bone erupted from him, red veins angrily pulsating through out them. The tentacles no longer pulling him towards the black mass, instead, he was connected through them to it. They were his capillaries, ethereal and intangible yet absolute.

He could see Casey in the distance now..yelling at him..pleading with him. What was this lesser thing, this trivial and inconsequential nat trying to say...? It no longer mattered, he was food, fuel for the master.

With a thought, Casey's neck was now within Callens wicked talons. He leaned in smelling Casey, lusting for what was hiding in his veins. With an unhinged jaw Callen bite down with a thousand needle like teeth, he tore open Caseys neck and drank deep.  Callen then tore out Casey's heart and crushed it to a pulp. Nothing more than a dried husk, Casey fell to the ground and turned to dust.

No longer afraid, no longer struggling.  This was who Callen was meant to be, this is what he had sought out after all.

Woe unto all, the harbinger has come.

Drenched in sweat, tossing and turning endlessly in bed.  Consciousness flooded back in with a painful crash and Callen lunged out of bed in panic and fright. Cold and naked he quickly grabbed his pistol from the nightstand as if it was a talisman to ward off evil.

It was a dream... nothing more he told him self. " Yes, just a dream".  He repeated to him self over and over but deep down he knew it was no dream.  This was his future, this is what he has been seeking out, searching for in the dark places of the universe.  It took him the rest of the morning to bring calm and center him self.

Where was he? Ah yes, Tarturis research station.  He had a meeting with Dr krinaytsyu. The black cube of neutronium had been calling out to him, he heard its song and knew he had to go to it. It had taken some effort to convince the rest of his group to let him reach out to it but that's what Callen does best.

Callen's story. Empty Re: Callen's story.

Unable to shake the overwhelming sense of dread his dream had brought to him, Callen put on his best suit and a fake smile.  He kept his hands in his pocket to hide that they would not stop trembling.

As he strode down the hall way of Tartarus station he could help be reminded how all of this started. Of the mission, they had spent months training for, how they would be the first to travel so far into accretion disk a black hole... to the anomaly.  They had thought they would find a map that would show them the way into the Stygian Abyss or unlock more secrets of the ancients. How little did they know the terror they would be unleashing. Long forgotten gods from time Immemorial hell bent on the destruction of all mortal life, perhaps all life.

Callen had woefully ignored the warning signs and now was haunted by a nightmare he dares not name.

He walked into Doctor krinaytsyu office to see the good doctor engaged with two of his assistants. While not the most attractive of ladies still they had a charming appeal. A sly smile and few charming words later Callen found him self alone with one of the sisters, while it didn't completely clear the dread from his mind it certainly helped.

A few hours later Callen sat meditating in a room adjacent to the good Doctors lab. He tried to center him self, to center his mind but he could not. He could hear the black cube calling to him, it was subtle and seductive. It was a song, though he could not hear the words the music was undeniable.

After what seemed like an eternity Dr. krinaytsyu was finally ready, he had finished setting up all his sensors and recording equipment and it would seem that he had also recruited a naive but loyal Colonial soldier.  The soldier went first, he walked up to the cube and reach out to it, we held our collective breath waiting for his impending doom. To our surprise, nothing happened.

My turn came next, I reached out and grabbed the cube. I held it in the palm of my hand and focused all my mental energies into it. Soon time and space seemed to fade away, I could feel my self-drifting through the ether as if I was pulled towards some unknown place. I saw before a monstrous entity of incomprehensible power, old as the universe...perhaps older.

Nyarlathotep floated before me in the infinite abyss, cloaked in shadow it lashed out with black tentacles, wrapping them around Callen, pulling him close. Nyarlathotep then spoke from behind some mask of unknown design. He commanded me to give my self to him, to become his voice, his Harald and usher him back into our realm. He promised me great power and all the riches of men and the greatest honor he could besote... to be eaten last, to be consumed after there was nothing left. All I had to do was open my self unto him and become his vessel.

His words where honeyed and soothing, dripping with the promise of great delight and ecstasy. They were however surprisingly easy to dismiss. Now with his plans laid bare Callen knew this was not what he wanted, his soul was his own and he would not betray everything he believed in just to be killed last! The nerve of this monstrosity!

Defiant in righteous anger Callen broke free of Nyarlathotep grasp and took hold of his tentacles, he wrapped them around his hand and pulled Nyarlathotep to him. With disdain in his voice, Callen said "I would never work for such a vile monster as you. My SOUL IS MY OWN! BEGONE!" Callen reached forward and tore Nyarlathotep mask away, reveling a face with no eyes... no other feature other than an endlessly hungering maw.

Banishing Nyarlathotep back to the abyss Callen awoke in the test lab. He was free, his mind was clear for the first time in a long time. He now could feel the taint that was hidden from him before fading way. Today was a good day.

The comm chimed and from the safety of his control room, Dr krinaytsyu said: "Callen we are ready to start whenever you are."

Just then Callen looked at his hand when he felt a flash of white hot heat. The almost infinitely dense black cube disintegrated into a fine black ash. " I am free, I am finally free." Callen looked at Casey " we need to talk".

"Sounds like a good idea" Casey said as he lowered his 10mm Sturmgewehr. "Let's go somewhere for a smoke and a drink."

Callen's story. Empty Re: Callen's story.

Callen and Casey had a long talk in Casey's private quarters. It should not have been surprising given all that they had gone through but Casey seemed to believe everything. All the insanity and terror, all the event's that should have ended with their death, yet somehow they always managed to survive.

Callen slept well that night, for the first time in as long as he could remember. The next morning Callen started going over a mental check list of all the things he needed to do. Stopping Nyarlathotep from coming back seemed to be right at the top of the list, even though Callen had been swept up in events that might very well change the course of the human race or at the very least the lives of every living being in the Colonies. Callens good mood seemed to come to an end at the thought of how impossible it was going to be of stopping Nyarlathotep and it was not lost on him that Nyarlathotep was not the only dark God, there are others out in the dark reaches of space and they are all waking up... just then Casey Commed Callen " They want us in the classified briefing room on level 20". Great for the distraction Callen finished getting dressed and left to find out what milk run the Colonials wanted now.

The briefing did not take long. The Colonials outlined their plan to use the Black globe generator as a weapon to blow up one of the Imperium's Tigress class ships. Through they could not give us the generator for our needs they did help up come up with a plan to take another one from the Imperium, all we had to do was go to Iderati, the capital of the 5 sisters and steal one. Before we could do that through we had to find some Ambassador for the Swords Worlds on Emape, what could go wrong!

The next day we all gathered to interview for two new members of our crew. Knowing the mission was not going to be easy the Colonials offered to send 2 specialists to help us.

The stress of the last few months must have gotten the better of him as Casey showed up drunk to the meeting in what was an uncharacteristic moment for him. Casey drank a lot, for more than most men but he rarely let it get to the point where it interfered with his duties.

We were in desperate need of a qualified engineer since our Bopop went missing. I had been hoping to add one to our crew but things went a little south. The engineer was shockingly overweight for a Colonial Soldier and she had a far too happy and pleasant demeanor for Casey to accept. In what can only be described as the dumbest thing our crew has ever done Casey ordered Gorekok to attack her. All too happy comply Gorekok charged at her, slamming her to the ground he then struck her across the head knocking her out.

It took a lot of work and all the good will we had earned to smooth things out but in the end, we did bring in two new crewmembers. A bioengineered near-human sniper and a female assassin skill cover-opts and intelligence analysis.

Casey and I had one last thing we had to do before we left for Emape, we had to see the Heralds. Fortunately for us, we had already set up an appointment with them before Casey got drunk and ordered Gorekok to assault a Colonial officer. We meet with the Heralds emissary, he went over all the protocols we would have to follow if we were to meet with them. We went in to talk to them...

"All green across the board and we are cleared to jump," I said to Casey as we jumped on our way to the Gap system.

Callen's story. Empty Re: Callen's story.

Post by grumpit Sat Aug 19, 2017 6:17 pm

I woke up on the bridge of the Mata Hari next to Casey sitting in the captain's chair. The last thing I remember was talking to the Heralds emissary and then I was just sitting in the co-pilots seat, I don't remember coming back to the ship hell I don't even remember talking to the Heralds... they must have done something to me, they must have wiped my memories and it was too late to go back as we jumped just as I realized what happened. I asked Casey if remembered how we got here and he was just as in the dark as I was. The Heralds must have wiped our memories, they must have some reasons why they did but I found it most unsettling, maybe we and the colonies should trust them as much as we do.

We were sailing through jump space and as always I find the process very unnerving, anything could go wrong and we would never be seen again, just gone nothing left of us, nothing to bury, nothing to tell the universe that we were here. I think the most disturbing part is that you can not look at jump space with out it eroding your sanity bit by bit, it just chips away at you until there is nothing left. How can that be natural? how can something so wholly disturbing exist? I can't help but wonder if we are jumping through the realm of the dark gods... things? That when we look out into jump space we are looking truly into the abyss, that it's taking our sanity to feed their hunger.

Those stupid sons of bitches at Keening! By mistake, they loaded a box of some kind of genetically engineered monsters on to our ship! These softball sized balls of fury and teeth ran amuck through our ship and ruined almost everything not locked away behind 10 inches of steel! They got into the ventilation ducts in the ship and wreaked havoc on everything! They got into the engineering bay and almost blew up the ship. Worst of all they ate everything I owned! all my cloth, most of my gear. They even ate two of my High Explosive grenades! how in all the holy hell did they not die? Fortunately, we found they came with a shutdown signal, a simple audio chime when played they just die... I wish I could revive them so I could kill them again. Keening is going to pay for all my suits!

I was in my room trying to remember what the Haralds had done to us, trying to get into a deep meditative state where my memories should flow more freely. It was not clear, like trying to see through a steam covered window, I could see shapes large and hulking things, their outline similar to the Dawnstar. They were playing some kind of flute, it was hypnotic, I could feel it flowing through me... controlling me. I wanted to fight it or did I? The music, the music was all that mattered, it was seductive.. beautiful. I was struggling to remember anything but the enchanting all consuming music they played. Even just remembering it I was almost lost to it again.

I was starting to fight my way through it, almost able to see through that obfuscated window. The shadows were starting to take form when Casey called everyone to their stations, we were about to jump back into normal space, into the Gap system.

We jumped into Gap and could see it was in the middle of a heated battle between Imperial and Colonial forces. We were immediately challenged by an Imperial heavy cruiser. We decided to decline their offer of boarding us and instead drifted off unseen into the darkness of space. We observed the battle for a time and it was clear that the Imperial forces were being routed. Though we could not see her the Concordia was somewhere in system assailing the Imperial forces. It would not take long for Colonial forces to take full control of the system.
