Have a holly jolly Krampus Christmas everyone!
Little children had better be good or else St. Nick's sidekick will stuff you into his sack and carry you off to parts unknown.
Presumably to do stuff like this...
Ah, a gentle reminder that St. Valentine's day is only a few months off.

And here are some pictures of Krampus cosplay in real life. Seriously, there is a night during the Christmas season where they pay guys to dress up in furry bogey men outfits and run through the streets scaring up bundles of yuletide joy.

Again, "they" = "Germans". I'm not surprised that their version of Christmas fairytales includes an evil demon that will torture children. What's not to like about that?
The Brothers Grimm (again, Germans) did not skimp on the violence and grue in their own retold tales.

Re: Pictures
While the popularity of the Harry Potter craze passed me by, I do like this fan art piece of a scene from the Harry Potter universe. While the characters do resemble their movie counterparts, there is a touch of the artist's conception in the character design. I think I like the outfits they're wearing most of all. It lends to the idea of play in a fantasy world.

Hmmm. Almost a fantasy/science fiction/steampunk theme. I find it interesting, as the only exposure I have to Harry Potter is the movies.

Same here. I think this scene does a good job of emulating a basic look of the movies without copying it outright. When done well, I think this approach makes for some satisfying art.

Re: Pictures
I came across these photos from the Retroist blog. They are based on classic Nintendo games made into covers for old pulp fiction.
This is one for Metroid. It's 1950s Samus Aran. She's a femme fatale and bounty hunter who would sooner blow a laser hole in an alien head than ask silly questions. Â
And this is one for Super Mario Brothers. I find it cool that Mario's got a gun and is expecting trouble. Probably because Princess Toadstool is expecting a different kind of action in a related (unrelated?) shot.

Wow. Samus is crazy hot! The 8 bit graphics really didn't do her justice!
About the same is true when looking up images of Samus Aran from later in the Metroid series. She becomes more like vixen eye candy as opposed to a battle hardened bounty hunter with the ability to morph into a ball. I preferred the series when the suit was the main draw of the series with the female angle as the game's final twist.
And I'm not even going to touch the subject of Samus Aran fan art.

Ok I'll agree with you. That picture you posted was a fun retro look at Samus. However, when my older brother finally defeated that big brain (I was a spectator to this momentous event), we both thought it was way rad that Samus was a girl all along. And that had nothing to do with boobies, either.
I looked. 'Nuff said. Â

Video game mascots of the 1990s. Soo many mascots! So many commercial gimmicks that fell by the wayside. So many casualties.

Hey, kid. What are you doing with that blaster arm mod you found in the backyard? Oh, you're going to defend your home turf by taking out an orange land mech? That's okay, so long as you use it just this once.
Seriously though, this picture is one of many from Swedish artist Simon Stalenhag, whose talents have lead him to create bizarre apocalyptic worlds. These are worlds where people constantly run into walking robotic hulks, giant War of the Worlds machines, and dinosaurs. All within the comfort of a Swedish rendition Norman Rockwell ruralism gone horribly wrong. In a good sort of way.
I kind of like the way this guy chooses to interpret the world.

Those all must be from Sega. I don't recognize any of them.
Not even Earthworm Jim, Ristar, Kid Chameleon, Echo the Dolphin, or a Battletoad? Groovy?

When giant robots come into play, I suppose we are dealing with the end of humanity as we know it. The end of the human race starting with their largest shanty town.

This picture answers an age old question in video game lore. In the original Legend of Zelda what happens on level 426? What? You say there isn't a level 426 in the game? Then how did this screenshot come to be?
My opinion is that from this point forward, Link is forced to complete a bug hunt side quest. Can he do it with three hearts or will it be, "Game over, man. GAME OVER!"?

Sometimes I feel that because I never once have played Legends of Zelda I missed the entire 80's and 90's.

It's never too late to start a good thing mostly because The Legend of Zelda series is one of the easiest to buy. Even the first game isn't that difficult to obtain thanks to the many millions of copies that were made for the original NES.
