Re: Pictures
I really enjoyed the bleak landscape.
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or straight here. I guess I'll keep on guessing.

The next time happened to be yesterday evening. I suppose my gambit paid off.

No, I really did enjoy it. Although I didn't care much for walking through Nebraska and Wyoming (especially Wyoming), I find desertscapes rather enjoyable. Eric and I talked about how the hike evoked my imagination of what the Dunlands might look like. Minus a huge salty lake, of course.
Re: Pictures
This has got to be the best comic panel ever drawn and narrated.

I love pictures of desolate spaces. There's inspiration to be found in spartan landscapes I think. Or it could just remind you of wandering aimlessly in the Dunlands. That works too.

Is that the amazing and powerful Doctor Doom, losing a fight to a pack of rats???

You are 50% correct. That is indeed the malevolent and dreaded Dr. Doom; however, he is being assaulted by an army of squirrels. Squirrels? Where did they come from? Why only from the lamest side kick to ever grace the panels of the Marvel Universe. Behold readers the entrance of...
Yes. The Amazing Squirrel Girl ran for a time as sidekick to the Invincible Ironman. Her only real superpower was the ability to summon hordes of squirrels to do her bidding. (And I'm afraid I'm not making any of this up.)

Please tell me you're making this up.

Drat.
Re: Pictures
Here's another comic panel that will make you scratch your head. I'm sure there's something in the context that's missing, but you can be the judge and jury on that question.

Re: Pictures
Perhaps it's in reference to this:
Wow. Maybe the Joker is more than a mere mortal. Perhaps he has the power to sense homoerotic arousal as it happens anywhere in the vicinity of Gotham City.
I will say that in Batman and Robin's defense those look like double beds. But they appear to be uncomfortably close to each other. I don't know, Davey. I just don't know.

Double beds pushed together? Sleeping in the same room in a 30 bedroom mansion?

30 bedrooms, eh? I suppose you have a point. That's why in the 1950s, the writers of Batman killed off Alfred and replaced him with this person...
Yes, it's aunt Harriet as she was introduced in the comic book series continuing through the decade through the Batman tv series of the 1960s.
As we can see, Bruce Wayne looks a little shocked at who is moving into his stately manor house. At least I think it's shock. Could it be something more?

Re: Pictures
Now for more comic panel silliness...
Ever wonder what God thinks of the human race? Ever wonder what a God might be thinking of when visting Coney Island? Perhaps you've thought about neither of those things; but, at some point in our vaunted history, a comic book writer tried to capture a God's thoughts about spending a day at the fairgrounds. And here they are...

Re: Pictures
I like comic books just fine, but sometimes they can take themselves a bit too seriously, even when they're trying to poke fun at themselves.

What??? Please tell me that this is photoshopped. wrote:
I hope it is. But knowing this panel came from a comic dating to the 1960s, I can't say for sure.

This is (according to certain nerds who call themselves scientists) inevitably what the future of the Milky Way has in store. I find it interesting that it will be less a collision and more a merger, as very few celestial objects will actually collide. I'm sure though, that the supermassive black holes in the center of each galaxy will come together eventually. I would not want to be around for that.
